In Wall or In Ceiling SpeakersIn-wall and in-ceiling speakers work in the same way as regular speakers, but they're mounted in a frame and set into the wall (or ceiling). Instead of a separate speaker cabinet, they use the wall itself as the cabinet.
Most in-wall style speakers are full range so as with the satellite style speakers, you will need a subwoofer for bass presentation. Many in-wall style speakers also have paintable grilles so the speaker installation will blend in nicely with your walls or ceiling. This is the best setup imaginable, great sound throughout your home without bulky speakers or wires everywhere. Of course that brings us to the one negative and that is installation requires running speaker wires inside your wall space. But if you are up to the task, this is a great way to add sound through out your house. These are also excellent for any commercial locations also. Just a few years ago you were very limited on the manufacturers providing in-wall or in-ceiling style speakers. Today, you will find these speakers from the likes of Polk, Boston Acoustics, Yamaha, Bose, JBL, Infinity, KEF, Klipsch, MB Quart and more.
